Environment Program of the HRND of Siem Reap

The purpose of the Human Resource and Natural Development Environment Program is to raise awareness about health and safety and the environment.

It still happen that children die in villages because of what is believed to be a tummy bug. The cause: probably an unclean food preparation area. The problem: the villagers didn’t know why it happened and how to counter it. The sad thing is that they were not able to afford to take their children to the hospital and thought that it would pass. Many of the people in the villages here in Cambodia do not understand the importance of maintaining their surrounding environment.

This Environment Program of the Human Resource and Natural Development has four main goals at the moment and they are:

Hygiene
To improve the hygiene and safety in both the home and the work place. To educate the parents of the dangers of an unhygienic food area and the benefits of hygiene. To have them understand the importance of a healthy balanced diet. A lot of the villagers have no understanding of the benefits of the food source around them. By educating them, they can provide a good diet for themselves and their children.

Water
To provide clean water. The water that the villagers have comes from some of the scattered wells in the village. The water is then kept in a large urn for future use. In the Prom Kot Village one well costs $300.

Toilets
The people in the villages of Cambodia have no toilets. There are no sanitation facilities and nor do they understand the importance of having a sanitation and sewerage facility.

Reforestation
This program will show the villagers of looking after their surrounding environment. By planting new trees and maintain the existing trees the parents and the children will understand the benefits of a balanced area of rice fields and woodlands.

Recently Venerable Mean Someth of Wat Prah Enkosa planted 5000 trees at the village of Prom Kot. The cost of this project was 3000R for each tree totaling $3750.
The Environment Program of the Human Resource and Natural Development (HRND) of Siem Reap Cambodia focus on these 4 goals.
